Indosat to get new executive

JAKARTA (JP): Apart from the arrangement for new boards of commissioners and directors at the state-owned domestic telecommunications firm PT Telkom, the government is also prepared to replace the financial director of PT Indosat.

Indosat's president, Tjahjono Soerjodibroto, said yesterday that the government had agreed to replace Indosat's finance director.

The government has agreed to nominate Satelindo's director for international calls, Achmad Rivai, to replace Indosat's finance director, Johanes Djajadi.

"The issue will be discussed at Indosat's shareholders meeting scheduled for April 18," Tjahjono said.

He said that as a public company, Indosat had assigned Bank of New York to collect questionnaires distributed to investors in the United States, asking whether they agreed or not on some plans, including the executive replacement.

He said that the questionnaires must be collected two weeks before the date of the shareholders meeting.

Djajadi, a graduate of University of Indonesia's School of Economics, started his career at Indosat in the early 1970s when the company was still owned by ITT of the United States.

Meanwhile, Rivai, 47, is a graduate of the Bandung Institute of Technology. He started work at PT Telkom in 1972 and joined Indosat in 1978. In 1993, he joined Satelindo, which is 7.5 percent owned by Indosat.

The government intends to install new members of the boards of commissioners and directors at PT Telkom, including the company's chief commissioner, chief executive officer (president), director of finance and director of planning and technology.

Telkom's president Setyanto P. Santosa confirmed the issue, saying that the replacements would depend on the results of the company's shareholders meeting scheduled for May 17.

Both Telkom and Indosat are publicly-listed firms. Indosat is listed on the Jakarta and New York stock exchanges, while Telkom floated shares on the Jakarta, Surabaya, London and New York stock exchanges last year. (icn)
