Indosat-Huawei introduce four AI features for phone calls

PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Tbk (Indosat or IOH) together with Huawei has introduced four artificial intelligence (AI)-based features through the AI New Calling service to make communication via phone calls easier and more interactive.

Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Desmond Cheung said the use of AI in communication services can help the public overcome a number of barriers in communicating, including language differences and noisy environmental conditions.

“Our ambition is to make AI more accessible through the connectivity that people use every day, helping them communicate more easily, overcoming barriers such as language and noisy environments, and managing their digital lives more simply,” said Desmond at the Indosat and Huawei collaboration event in Jakarta on Wednesday.

AI Noise-Reduction Calling uses AI technology to reduce noise from both sides of the call so that conversations remain clearly audible, including when users are in crowded environments.

Next, Real-Time Call Translation allows conversations to be translated directly using AI in the form of voice and subtitles during the call.

Then, Interactive Visualised Voice Calling allows voice calls to be accompanied by video or visual content for various needs, such as food ordering, hotel reservations, and call centre services.

Meanwhile, Visualized Voice Calling or IDOLCALL allows users to choose celebrities or popular intellectual property (IP) to be displayed as digital avatars on the phone screen during the call.

Desmond said the implementation of AI is part of the collaboration between Indosat and Huawei in developing Connected Intelligence in Indonesia.

“The value of AI lies not only in how advanced the technology is, but in how it can improve people’s daily lives,” he said.
