Indonesia's tourism policy

Indonesia's tourism policy

Tourism circles have protested the Indonesian government's
decision to decrease the number of states enjoying the visa-free
facility, from 49 to 11.

The business sector launched the protest in April last year,
saying the facility given to Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Hong Kong,
Malaysia, Macao, Morocco, Peru, Singapore, Thailand, the
Philippines, and Vietnam was not effective nor essential.

Businesspeople want the visa-free facility to be given to
countries which send a significant number of tourists to
Indonesia.

The government, however, does not share their view, saying
countries which have contributed much to Indonesia's tourism
industry have not given Indonesia a visa-free facility.

Now, the question is whether or not Indonesia has made an
all-out effort to promote its tourism industry.

Has it offered interesting packages to sell to other
countries?

tourism if they do not want to be left behind by their Asian
counterparts. -- Bisnis Indonesia, Jakarta
