Indonesia's Strong Geography Positions ITS Indonesia as Key Player in Regional Urban Air Mobility
Founder and CEO of Whitesky Group, Denon Prawiraatmadja, is encouraging Intelligent Transport System Indonesia, or ITS Indonesia, to assume a strategic role in the development of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) in Indonesia and the regional area.
This was stated by Denon Prawiraatmadja during a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the future of transportation and the development of Urban Air Mobility, alongside President of Intelligent Transport System Indonesia (ITS Indonesia), William P. Sabandar. The event was also attended by stakeholders from the transport, technology, industry, and regulatory sectors.
According to Denon, Indonesia has significant opportunities to become one of the main players in developing the UAM ecosystem in Southeast Asia, particularly with the strengthening support of cross-sector collaboration.
“With Indonesia’s geographical characteristics and the continuously growing mobility needs, the opportunities for developing Urban Air Mobility in Indonesia are actually very substantial. The current challenge is how to build an integrated ecosystem that is ready to grow in the long term,” said Denon in his statement on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.
He also emphasised that ITS Indonesia holds a very strategic position in promoting the integration of future transport systems, including the development of Urban Air Mobility as part of the national mobility transformation.
According to him, the Intelligent Transport System concept developed by ITS Indonesia aligns with the UAM vision that has been promoted by Whitesky Group.
“ITS Indonesia is in line with the Urban Air Mobility concept that we have been promoting. In the future, transport systems cannot operate independently. Everything must be interconnected so that public mobility can be more efficient and adaptive,” he said.
Denon assessed that the development of Urban Air Mobility is not only about urban air transport but also about creating a mobility system capable of addressing urbanisation challenges, connectivity, and efficiency in the future.
He is also optimistic that ITS Indonesia has the capability to become one of the key forces in winning the Urban Air Mobility market at the regional level.
According to him, Indonesia possesses a unique combination of mobility needs, technological growth, and geographical conditions that can serve as a competitive advantage in UAM development.
