Jakarta – Indonesia’s national rice stocks have reached their highest level in the nation’s history. This was announced during the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) event jointly held by Polri in North Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, Director General of State Logistics Agency (Perum Bulog), stated that national rice stocks have currently reached approximately 3.9 million tonnes. This figure represents the highest position for March since Indonesia’s independence.

He also predicted that national rice stocks will continue to increase until the end of this month. According to him, the amount is estimated to reach more than 4.3 million tonnes by the end of March 2026.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Wakapolri), Police General Dedi Prasetyo, emphasised that the public need not worry about the availability of food supplies. Polri, he stated, will continue to work synergistically with Bulog to help distribute food to communities in various regions.

“We coordinate and work together with Bulog for distribution to the public. We guarantee adequate food availability, and price stability is the most important part to ensure affordability for everyone,” said Police General Dedi Prasetyo.

Through this cooperation, Polri will assist in distributing approximately 80,000 tonnes of rice and tens of thousands of kilolitres of cooking oil every month to keep food prices stable and affordable for the public.

Polri’s support is considered important to ensure that the government’s policy in maintaining food price stability can truly be felt by communities down to the consumer level.

For his part, Bulog’s Director General Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani mentioned the target for rice absorption in 2026 is approximately 4 million tonnes. With this achievement, national rice stocks by the end of the year are projected to exceed 5 million tonnes.

According to him, this surplus situation is part of the government’s large-scale effort to achieve national food self-sufficiency.

Besides rice, the government is also preparing cooking oil supplies of approximately 43,000 kilolitres every month and sufficient sugar stocks to meet public needs during Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr.

Meanwhile, Polri is also continuing the Cheap Food Movement programme that has been running since 2025 as part of support for the government’s policy in maintaining national food price stability.
