JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Three TNI soldiers attached to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping contingent were killed while carrying out a mission in southern Lebanon. The three were Major Inf (Posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sgt Maj (Posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Cpl (Posthumous) Farizal Rhomadon. The United Nations (UN), based on preliminary investigations, stated that one TNI soldier was killed by tank projectile fire from the Israeli military. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the findings were preliminary and based on the physical evidence currently available. “This is a preliminary finding, based on initial physical evidence,” Dujarric stated during a press conference on Tuesday (7 April 2026), quoted from Reuters. Vero stated that the government strongly condemns Israel’s actions that resulted in the deaths of TNI soldiers as UN peacekeeping personnel. “Such actions constitute a serious violation of international law,” Vero added during a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (7 April 2026). “Therefore, Indonesia reiterates that the safety and security of UN peacekeeping personnel is non-negotiable,” Vero emphasised. The government has requested the UN to urge relevant authorities to investigate, prosecute, and ensure full accountability for the perpetrators. “These incidents are inseparable from the deteriorating situation in Lebanon. Indonesia continues to strongly condemn Israel’s attacks in southern Lebanon, which have significantly increased the risks faced by UN peacekeeping personnel,” he said. Vero noted that Israel’s attacks undermine the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
