Indonesia's Renewable Energy Mix Reaches 18.3%
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) continues to boost the increase of the new and renewable energy (EBT) mix in Indonesia. To date, the realisation of the EBT mix has reached 18.3%.
Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) at the Ministry of ESDM, Eniya Listiani Dewi, stated that the 18.3% energy mix achievement comes from contributions from both the electricity and non-electricity sectors.
"For this new and renewable energy, if we look at its growth, it has grown to 18.3%. So our mix is already above 18%. What does this 18.3% consist of? From electricity and non-electricity," she said at the CNBC Indonesia Energy Forum in Jakarta, quoted on Tuesday (30/6/2026).
Eniya assessed that this achievement has met the Ministry of ESDM’s Strategic Plan (Renstra) target for this year, which is in the range of 17-21%. Nevertheless, the government is targeting the EBT mix to continue increasing to strengthen national energy resilience.
"This year we have achieved it, the strategic plan is now in the range of 17 to 21%, we are already at 18.3%. We want to be more resilient. Now, the effort to boost that involves a government strategy to increase this energy mix," she said.
To achieve this target, the government has prepared a number of strategies, including expanding the implementation of the mandatory biodiesel programme, accelerating the construction of solar power plants with a capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW), and encouraging the use of electric cookers and the conversion of fuel-powered vehicles to electric vehicles.
In addition, the government is also beginning to expand the utilisation of bioenergy raw materials from various types of plants, not just oil palm.
"Then there are other plants like coconut for bio-avtur. So in the future, there will be a lot of potential for us to increase oil lifting from plants. At the same time, we are also enhancing the energy efficiency programme. We want our society to use energy wisely, in a smart way," said Eniya.
