Indonesia's Population Reaches 290 Million as of June 2026, Dukcapil Reports
The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) at the Ministry of Home Affairs has recorded that Indonesia’s population has reached 290,125,073 as of 30 June 2026.
“As of 30 June 2026, or the first half of 2026, Indonesia’s population stands at 290,125,073 people,” said the Director General of Population and Civil Registration at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Teguh Setyabudi, at the Dukcapil National Coordination Meeting and the First Half 2026 Population Data Release in Jakarta, quoted on Tuesday (4/8).
Teguh said Indonesia’s population had increased by around 1.8 million compared with the second half of 2025, when it stood at 288,315,089.
Teguh noted that the average growth of Indonesia’s population amounts to 1.7 million people per half-year.
He explained that these figures are derived from net births minus the number of deaths.
“This is the trend: in June it was 290.1 million, in the second half it was 288.3 million, and in the first half of 2025 it was 286 million — that is roughly over the past year,” he said.
Teguh stated that of the total population, the number of males exceeds that of females. He detailed that the male population stands at 146,402,289, whilst the female population is at 143,722,784.
Teguh said West Java Province has the largest population in Indonesia, with a total of 52,211,020 people, followed by East Java in second place with 42,226,212.
Meanwhile, West Papua Province has the smallest population, at 588,491 people.
