Indonesia's Payment Systems Among Key Topics in US Tariff Negotiations
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - A number of ministers forming part of the negotiation team are currently in Washington DC, United States, to negotiate the 32% import tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on Indonesia.
The use of Indonesian payment systems, such as the Quick Response Indonesian Standard (QRIS) and the National Payment Gateway, is among the subjects being discussed in the negotiations.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto explained that the government has been coordinating with Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) regarding input from the US side.
"We have been coordinating with OJK and BI, particularly regarding the payment systems requested by the American side," said Airlangga during an online press conference, as quoted on Saturday (19/4/2025).
However, Airlangga did not elaborate further on the specific measures the Indonesian government, together with BI and OJK, would take in response to the US tariffs.
Another matter discussed in the negotiations with the US concerns import licensing through the use of the Importer Identification Number (API) via the Online Single Submission (OSS) system. Additionally, various tax and customs incentives, as well as import quotas, were also on the agenda.
"There are also matters related to the economic package, which is currently under discussion, and among them are issues concerning import licensing, API, OSS, taxation and customs services, as well as quota arrangements, including those in the financial sector," he affirmed.
