Indonesia's open unemployment rate edges down to 4.65 percent in May 2026

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in May 2026 fell by 0.03 percentage points compared to February of the same year. In May 2026, there were 7.22 million unemployed individuals, equivalent to an open unemployment rate of 4.65 percent. This figure is lower than the 4.68 percent recorded in February 2026. The decline in the Open Unemployment Rate occurred for both male and female workers, and was consistent across urban and rural areas. BPS also noted that the labour force grew to 155.41 million people in May 2026, an increase of 497,000 individuals. Of this total, 148.19 million were employed, marking an increase of 522,000 workers compared to February. The number of full-time workers rose by 391,000 to 98.98 million people, while part-time workers increased by 72,000 to 38.42 million. The number of underemployed workers grew by 59,000 to 10.79 million. The Labour Force Participation Rate (TPAK) also saw a slight increase, reaching 70.57 percent in May 2026, up from 70.56 percent in February.
