Indonesia's Official Stance on Zionist Annexation at Al-Aqsa Mosque
Indonesia has condemned the structured violence of Zionist Israel, which is sponsoring its citizens to forcibly take over the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex and surrounding areas in Palestine. The brutality, involving Jewish extremist groups and the Zionist military, constitutes a flagrant violation of international law. Indonesia affirmed its support for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for its role as the custodian state guarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The statement was delivered by Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir while representing Indonesia at the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Arab and Islamic Countries in Amman, Jordan. ‘Indonesia condemns and denounces the violence by Israeli citizens and Israel’s violations of international law in Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex, and the West Bank,’ Arrmanatha said via a press release.
The meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers was initiated by Jordan following the crisis situation in Jerusalem and the West Bank in Palestine. Recently, Zionists and their government figures have been campaigning for and even sponsoring extremist groups and Jewish citizens in Israel to forcibly seize Palestinian lands in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. With the support of armed military personnel, Jewish extremist groups in Israel have also laid siege to take control of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Israel’s unilateral actions have triggered violence leading to resistance from Palestinians struggling to hold their ground. The situation also prompted Jordan to take a stance to defend its status as the custodian of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Kingdom of Jordan invited Arab and Islamic countries, including Indonesia, to discuss and take a collective stance on the ongoing madness of the Zionist regime in the land of Palestine.
In delivering Indonesia’s official position on the current situation in Palestine, Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha stressed that Israel, with its military might, is increasingly blatantly violating international law. ‘Indonesia shares the deep concern we all feel here, that more and more Zionist settlement movements are passing through the gates of holy sites under the escort of soldiers who should be keeping the peace,’ Arrmanatha said.
‘Throughout the West Bank, the same pattern continues with impunity from firm action. More land is being seized, more settlements are being built. Indonesia condemns these actions,’ the Deputy Foreign Minister continued. Indonesia asserted that it does not accept the blatant aggression carried out by Zionist Israel in the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex, Jerusalem, and the West Bank. ‘This is unacceptable and must not be normalised,’ Arrmanatha stated.
Arrmanatha affirmed that Indonesia is in a clear position of fully supporting the status of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as the custodian state of the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex. He also reaffirmed Indonesia’s unchanged position in supporting the struggle for the independence of the Palestinian people with East Jerusalem as the capital of that state. ‘Indonesia reaffirms its support for the Hashemite custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem, including al-Haram al-Sharif, as well as the independence of the state of Palestine,’ Arrmanatha stressed.
Besides Indonesia, the meeting in Jordan was also attended by ministers and deputy foreign ministers from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Somalia, Pakistan, Morocco, Malaysia, Palestine, and Qatar. The Secretary-General of the Arab League also attended the emergency meeting. In its official stance, Indonesia also reminded Islamic and Arab countries to forget old political patterns that have so far caused unity to dissolve.
Indonesia urged Arab and Islamic countries to look at the current geopolitical realities in the region. Arrmanatha said the political landscape in the Middle East is currently changing drastically due to the increase in illegal settlement activities driven by Zionists in the West Bank, the genocidal aggression carried out by Zionist Israel in Gaza, and Israel’s invasion of Syrian and Lebanese territories. This is compounded by the high military escalation between the United States, together with Zionist Israel, against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The political reality in the region appears to show the fragmentation of unity and brotherhood among fellow Arab and Islamic countries. Arrmanatha said Zionist Israel is exploiting the discord among Arab and Islamic nations. ‘Israel does not fear our anger. They actually rely on our divisions. Unity is the one strength we have never fully utilised. So let us use that strength together,’ Arrmanatha said.
