Indonesia’s Largest Toll Road Rest Area, Check Out Its Facilities
On the Japek or Cipularang busy route, rest areas are important facilities for drivers travelling long distances. One of the most prominent is Rest Area Travoy KM 88B which is claimed to be an A-type rest area with the widest area in Indonesia. Facility Coordinator Rest Area Travoy KM 88, Frince Rajagukguk, said this area has a very large area compared with other rest areas in the country. Besides its size, the rest area also plays an important role as a holding point for vehicles when nearby rest areas are full. ‘Rest Area 88B is the dumping place for Rest Areas 97 and 125 when they are full. The events here feel on Sundays or when holidays peak. We here can stay until 5am,’ he said. ‘In the near future, because we have had meetings, there will be additional SPKLU (Stasiun Pengisian Kendaraan Listrik Umum) from PLN. (Currently) here (KM 88B) there are already 14 SPKLU nozzles’, said Frince. On the commercial facilities side, this rest area also features several well-known tenants that make it easier for visitors to get meals or other necessities. In addition to places to eat and shops, basic facilities for drivers are also fully provided. Frince explained that the rest area has four toilet locations distributed in various areas. ‘There are four toilet locations. There is at the premium car park (bottom), in the pujasera area (top) that is larger, at the petrol station, and in the large vehicle area (trucks) which is also equipped with a special driver’s shower,’ he said. ‘There is a mosque with capacity of 500 worshippers, and can be more because the outer area is newly built. Its management works with BSI,’ Frince said. With such complete facilities, this rest area can accommodate thousands of vehicles each day. Although it has the widest area, the daily visitor numbers at this rest area are still lower than Rest Area KM 88A on the opposite side of the road. According to Frince, the latter rest area can accommodate around 7,000 to 8,000 cars each day, making it one of the busiest points on that toll road. With facilities ranging from dining to a mosque and plans for SPKLU, Rest Area Travoy KM 88B becomes an important rest point for drivers crossing the main toll road on Java.
