Indonesia's Inflation Reaches 0.28% in May 2026
The Central Agency on Statistics (BPS) has reported that inflation in May 2026 stood at 0.28% on a month-to-month (mtm) basis. On a calendar year basis, inflation reached 1.35%, while the annual inflation rate was recorded at 3.08%.
Inflationary pressures within the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month were higher than the conditions in April 2026, which saw a month-to-month inflation of 0.13%. BPS noted that the expenditure group experiencing the highest inflation was the transport sector, with a value of 0.61%, contributing 0.07% to the overall inflation rate.
“Inflation of 0.28% occurred,” stated Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information at BPS, during a press conference at the BPS Head Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Market consensus gathered by CNBC Indonesia from ten institutions had previously estimated that the CPI for May 2026 would experience a monthly inflation of 0.19% (mtm), with a median annual inflation of 2.93% (yoy). Meanwhile, core inflation for May 2026 was expected to be at the 2.46% yoy level.
For context, in April 2026, Indonesia experienced inflation of 0.13% (mtm), while the annual inflation rate was recorded at 2.42% (yoy) and core inflation reached 2.44% (yoy).
