Indonesia's Foreign Ministry Seeks Release of GSF Volunteers Through Friendly States with Access to Israel

Jakarta — The Indonesian government continues to pursue every channel of international communication to secure the release of Indonesian citizens (WNI) detained by Israeli authorities in the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 mission.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kementerian Luar Negeri, Kemlu) is also opening lines of communication with third-party countries that have relationships with or direct access to Israel.

‘We will continue to pursue all channels of communication, including through friendly states that have access to Israel, including the legal team or the Secretariat of the Global Sumud Flotilla, and other parties who can help ensure safety, communication access, and the process of the release of our Indonesian citizens,’ said Kemlu spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang at the Kemlu office in Jakarta on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

All diplomatic channels will be mobilised to ensure the Indonesian citizens detained return home safely.

‘We emphasise again that we will use all available diplomatic channels to protect and pursue the release of our citizens. And what is important at the moment are concrete steps being taken on the ground,’ she said.

Kemlu RI also continues to monitor the condition and whereabouts of the Indonesian citizens, and prepare the necessary anticipatory steps.

‘We reiterate that Israel’s military actions against this flotilla and the volunteers aboard constitute a real violation of international law,’ she said.
