Bank Indonesia (BI) announced that Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserves stood at USD 145.6 billion in June 2026. The figure increased slightly compared to the reserve position in May 2026 of USD 144.9 billion. The development of the foreign exchange reserve position in June 2026 was mainly influenced by tax and service revenues amidst government external debt payments and Bank Indonesia’s rupiah exchange rate stabilisation policy in response to high global financial market uncertainty, said Head of the BI Communication Department Ramdan Denny Prakoso in a statement on Tuesday (7/7/2026). Denny stated that the foreign exchange reserve position at the end of June 2026 was equivalent to financing 5.5 months of imports or 5.4 months of imports and government external debt payments, and was above the international adequacy standard of around three months of imports. Bank Indonesia assesses that these foreign exchange reserves are capable of supporting external sector resilience and maintaining macroeconomic and financial system stability. Going forward, Denny said BI believes external sector resilience remains good, supported by an adequate foreign exchange reserve position and foreign capital inflows. This is in line with positive investor perception of the national economic prospects and attractive investment returns. Bank Indonesia continues to strengthen synergy with the government in bolstering external resilience to maintain economic stability to support sustainable economic growth. Along with the new foreign exchange reserve achievement as of June 2026, the rupiah was observed moving back towards the level of Rp 18,000 per US dollar. At the opening of trading on Tuesday (7/7/2026), the Garuda Currency was at Rp 17,996 per US dollar. Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserve position experienced a fairly sharp decline from the beginning of 2026, in line with BI’s massive efforts to strengthen the rupiah exchange rate amidst the escalation of conflicts throughout the year. In January 2026, Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserve position reached USD 154.6 billion, lower than the December 2025 position of USD 156.5 billion. In February 2026, the reserve position fell to USD 151.9 billion, followed by a decline in March 2026 to USD 148.2 billion. Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserve position declined again, recorded at USD 146.2 billion in April, and fell further in May 2026 to USD 144.9 billion. It then rose slightly in June 2026 to USD 145.6 billion.
