The Indonesian Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the country’s first aircraft carrier, the Giuseppe Garibaldi, is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on 20 September 2026. The Director General of Defence Forces at the Ministry of Defence, Air Marshal Hendrikus Haris Haryanto, stated that the Indonesian Navy has already begun extensive preparations, including sending 100 personnel to Italy for training to operate the vessel. Additionally, the Navy is preparing several bases to support the carrier, with the naval base in Lampung being designated as one of the primary berthing locations. The Chief of the Navy Information Service confirmed that the development of facilities at the Lampung base is underway to ensure all operational requirements are met before the carrier’s arrival, which is expected ahead of the Indonesian Armed Forces anniversary in October 2026.
