Indonesia's First Aircraft Carrier, Giuseppe Garibaldi, to Arrive on 20 September 2026
Indonesia’s first aircraft carrier, the Giuseppe Garibaldi, is scheduled to arrive in the country on 20 September 2026. The announcement was made by Air Marshal Hendrikus Haris Haryanto, Director General of Defence Forces at the Ministry of Defence, during a meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday.
To prepare for the vessel’s arrival, the Indonesian Navy has dispatched 100 personnel to Italy for training. These personnel will undergo both theoretical and practical instruction to enable them to operate the carrier on its voyage from Italy to Indonesia. The Navy is also preparing a base in Lampung to accommodate the docking and berthing of the aircraft carrier. The Chief of Naval Information Service confirmed that facilities at the Lampung Naval Base are being developed to support the operational needs of the vessel, with all preparations expected to be completed before the ship’s arrival ahead of the Indonesian Armed Forces anniversary in October 2026.
