Indonesia's Farmland Holds Treasure Trove: 5 Commodities in Global Demand
Indonesia’s agricultural exports reached US$6.83 billion in 2025, or approximately Rp 120.86 trillion (US$1 = Rp 17,695). This figure jumped 20.05% compared to the previous year’s US$5.69 billion. The growth was the highest among other non-oil and gas sector groups. Nevertheless, the agricultural sector only contributed 2.53% to Indonesia’s total non-oil and gas exports. Behind this increase, a number of commodities recorded fairly high growth. The following are the five agricultural commodities with the largest export values in 2025.
Coffee remains the largest agricultural export commodity for Indonesia in 2025. Its value reached US$2.50 billion or Rp 44.24 trillion, soaring 53.87% compared to 2024’s US$1.62 billion. This value is equivalent to 36.60% of total agricultural sector exports. In other words, out of every US$100 of Indonesia’s agricultural exports, around US$37 comes from coffee. The rise in coffee exports was also one of the main pillars supporting the agricultural sector’s growth throughout last year.
Annual fruit commodities took the next position with an export value of US$758.8 million in 2025. This grew 30.66% compared to 2024’s US$580.7 million. This commodity contributed 11.11% to total agricultural sector exports. Although its value is still far below coffee, the growth in annual fruit exports indicates that demand from overseas markets is still increasing.
Medicinal, aromatic plants and spices recorded even higher growth. Their export value reached US$640.3 million in 2025, up 50.39% from the previous year. This commodity contributed 9.38% to total agricultural sector exports. Although its export value is still below fruits, its growth reached more than half compared to the previous year.
Other perennial crops were in the next position with an export value of US$631.8 million in 2025. This value grew 15.08% compared to 2024’s US$549 million. Its contribution reached 9.25% to agricultural sector exports. Growth for this commodity remains positive, although it is below the overall agricultural sector growth.
Unlike the other four main commodities, edible bird’s nest exports actually declined. Its value fell 13.84%, from US$551.6 million in 2024 to US$475.2 million in 2025. Its contribution to total non-oil and gas exports was recorded at 0.18%.
Meanwhile, all other agricultural commodities combined recorded an export value of US$1.82 billion in 2025, down 6.81% compared to the previous year. The data shows that the increase in Indonesia’s agricultural exports in 2025 was largely reliant on a number of main commodities. Coffee was the biggest engine, while spices and fruits showed growth rates that also helped lift the sector’s performance.
