Indonesia's Economy Affected by Strait of Hormuz Crisis, UAE Ambassador: Impacts Global Markets
KOMPAS.com - The UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, stated that Indonesia’s economy is affected by the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
The disruption to energy supply chains is causing fuel prices to rise.
Indonesia is experiencing this as well, but the government has managed to dampen the increase in fuel prices.
He explained that various types of energy exports from the Middle East to other parts of the world must pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Twenty percent of the world’s oil and LNG supply comes from there, and the blockage of those waters is worsening the regional situation.
Considering these factors, Al Dhaheri concluded that Indonesia is not immune to the effects of the US-Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
“I need to say, Indonesia is not immune to this situation,” he explained.
“Iranian state media quoted the IRGC Navy announcing an alternative traffic route in the Strait of Hormuz to help ships avoid potential sea mines,” explained Al Jazeera on Thursday (9/4/2026).
