Indonesia's Digital Infrastructure Readiness Gains International Recognition

Indonesia has received the AI-Net Certification and WBBA Gigacity Certification from the World Broadband Association (WBBA), along with international awards recognising its national digital infrastructure readiness. The announcement was made at the Broadband Development Summit APAC 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, on 14 July 2026. “This unified global certification standard validates Indonesia’s long-term digital transformation strategy and will further accelerate the development of high-quality, intelligent network infrastructure across the country,” said Denny Setiawan, Director of Digital Infrastructure Strategy and Policy at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs. The Ministry, together with Indonesian telecommunications operators, was honoured for demonstrating digital infrastructure readiness. The Ministry secured the AI Net Country 2026 Award for proving national digital infrastructure readiness in supporting the development of AI-based internet networks, IPv6, and Net5.5G technology. Meanwhile, the Gigabit City Award was achieved due to the successful drive to increase IPv6 penetration from 25 percent to 35 percent and the implementation of progressive policies in digital economy transformation at the national and ASEAN levels. Denny stated that these achievements serve as important capital for Indonesia in executing its digital transformation and realising the Indonesia Cerdas 2030 vision. PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk made history by becoming the world’s first operator to receive the AI-Net Champion award through its implementation of the Net5.5G roadmap. PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (SURGE) won the WBBA Gigacity Champion Award for its Starlite SUPER Fixed Broadband and 1.4 GHz Broadband Wireless Access innovations, while Telkomsel received recognition for developing 5G-based Fixed Wireless Access services. Denny Setiawan noted that these successes reflect the synergy between the government and the telecommunications industry in accelerating national digital transformation.
