Indonesia's Defence Minister and Japan Strengthen Cooperation in Defence Industry
Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the country will strengthen military cooperation with Japan in the defence industry sector and the development of human resource quality.
“We both have agreed to promote substantive cooperation in the defence industry and also in the development and training of personnel between Indonesia and Japan, while considering each country’s national interests,” said Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin during a joint statement with Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi at the Ministry of Defence office in Central Jakarta on Monday.
According to Sjafrie, cooperation in the defence industry with Japan represents a strategic step as it will impact the strengthening of the domestic defence industry.
By collaborating with Japan, it is hoped that technology transfer and knowledge will occur, which can improve the quality of the domestic defence industry.
Not only that, Sjafrie and Shinjiro will also strengthen cooperation in the field of humanitarian missions, particularly disaster management.
All points of cooperation will be discussed in a closed meeting between Sjafrie and Shinjiro, which is currently underway in the Bhineka Tunggal Ika Hall at the Ministry of Defence office.
The meeting will conclude with the signing of a defence cooperation contract by Sjafrie and Shinjiro.
