Indonesia’s Data Centre Market Attracts Growing Interest
Demand for digital infrastructure continues to rise as technology-based economic activity expands. The use of cloud computing, large-scale data processing and artificial intelligence (AI) is making data centres increasingly important to businesses.
Data centres are essential facilities for storing, managing and processing the data companies need to run a range of digital services. The infrastructure supports operations across sectors including banking, e-commerce, telecommunications and businesses that rely on technology to improve efficiency.
Indonesia has the opportunity to attract investment in this sector, given the size of its domestic digital market and companies’ growing need for data-based services. This development is also creating opportunities for industry players to expand their businesses, increase service capacity and reach more customers across the country.
Amid these opportunities, expansion is not limited to building new facilities. Acquisitions are another strategy companies can use to extend their operational networks and strengthen their market positions by integrating existing facilities into their platforms.
One such move comes from PT SMPlus Digital Investama (SM+) and its affiliate, which have signed a definitive agreement to acquire Princeton Digital Group’s (PDG) enterprise data-centre business in Indonesia. The transaction covers five operating data-centre facilities in Greater Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Pekanbaru.
The acquisition is an important step in SM+’s strategy to strengthen and expand its digital infrastructure platform in Indonesia, a market experiencing rapid growth in data consumption, cloud adoption and corporate digital transformation.
Following the transaction, the company will operate a total of 31 facilities across 25 cities in Indonesia. By integrating the newly acquired business into its existing platform, the company expects to improve service quality, support future growth opportunities and continue advancing Indonesia’s digital transformation by providing reliable, scalable digital infrastructure.
