Indonesia's Coal Reference Price Mostly Rises in Early August 2026

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has officially set the Coal Reference Price (HBA) for the first sales period of August 2026. The policy is stipulated in Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. 312 Year 2026 concerning the Reference Price for Metallic Minerals and Coal for the First Period of August 2026. In the regulation, the government separates the HBA into four categories. Compared to the HBA in the second period of July 2026, the HBA I, HBA II, and HBA III categories experienced price increases in the first period of August 2026. Meanwhile, the highest calorie coal category experienced a price decline. The Directorate General of Minerals and Coal at the Ministry of ESDM stated in an Instagram post @ditjenminerba, quoted on Monday (3/8/2026), that the ministry had officially issued the decree. The details of the HBA for the first period of August 2026 are as follows: First, the HBA for coal with a calorific value equivalent to 6,322 kcal/kg GAR, Total Moisture 12.76%, Total Sulphur 0.66%, and Ash 7.94% is set at US$124.44 per ton. This figure represents a decrease compared to the HBA in the second period of July 2026, which was US$131.85 per ton. Second, HBA I for coal with a calorific value equivalent to 5,300 kcal/kg GAR, Total Moisture 21.32%, Sulphur 0.75%, and Ash 6.04% is set at US$93.27 per ton for the first period of August 2026. This price increased compared to the second period of July 2026, which was US$89.90 per ton. Third, HBA II for coal with a calorific value equivalent to 4,100 kcal/kg GAR, Total Moisture 35.73%, Sulphur 0.23%, and Ash 3.90% is set at US$65.48 per ton. This price increased compared to the second period of July 2026, which was US$63.25 per ton. Fourth, HBA III for coal with a calorific value equivalent to 3,400 kcal/kg GAR, Total Moisture 44.30%, Sulphur 0.24%, and Ash 3.88% is set at US$45.27 per ton. This price increased compared to the second period of July 2026, which was US$45.08 per ton.
