Indonesia's AI Market at Level 2: Ahead of Malaysia, Lagging Behind Singapore
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - AMD’s Commercial Lead for Indonesia, Brando Lubis, revealed that the artificial intelligence (AI) market in Indonesia remains at an early stage or Level 2, with significant room for further development. With its vast market potential, AI can serve as the foundation for operational aspects of manufacturing plants to everyday tasks. “AI can become a foundation in the adoption of technology in the current market,” Brando stated at the CNBC Indonesia Tech & Telco Forum 2026 on Wednesday (6/5/2026). Currently, Indonesia is at Level 2, indicating substantial potential and a focus on appropriate investment directions. At this level, AI usage is experimental or project-based, requiring developments in infrastructure, data, processes, and skills. One company that has adopted AI in its network management is Indosat. In terms of AI implementation, Indonesia only outperforms Malaysia, which remains uncoordinated in its usage. Meanwhile, compared to Singapore, Indonesia lags considerably. Currently, Singapore is at Level 5, where AI usage and data organisation are more comprehensive. AI application is rich with innovation and has been adopted at the highest levels. Companies that have adopted AI include DBS Bank and Grab. If Indonesia eventually advances to Level 4-5, advanced technologies can be developed. Brando noted that this is where AMD’s role as a semiconductor company supporting many technologies comes into play. Brando added that AMD also collaborates with Google, Meta, and Microsoft to formulate and regulate open systems. “We are one of the two vendors providing AI GPU technology in the market, as well as AI PCs. So AMD is present in almost all industries and behind all technologies,” he explained.
