Indonesians shine in Konica c'ships
SINGAPORE (Agencies): Indonesia took the lion's share of the five titles when it won the men's singles and doubles at Konica Open badminton championships yesterday, with South Korea, Denmark and China sharing the other three.
Men's singles Ardy Wiranata beat compatriot Hermawan Susanto 15-10, 4-15, 15-9 to win the US$5,850 top prize money. It was a consolation victory for Ardy, who ensured Indonesia of its Thomas Cup victory last May, after his early quit in the Malaysia Open a week before.
Indonesia earned its second title after men's doubles Ricky Subagja and Rexy Mainaky outplayed Denmark's Thomas Lund and Jon Holst Christensen 15-6, 15-8. But South Korean Ra Kyung-min made amends for her Uber Cup loss with a 12-9, 11-5 win over Indonesia's Yuliani Sentosa.
