I never quite understand how so many people die AFTER an disaster, just because aid doesn’t reach them in time. You would think the UN would create a massive food, blanket and tent stockpile in each major continent, just for such events.

I am told that economics start to interplay. Delivering free food will destroy current local trade operations etc. So people freeze to death, children starve, old ladies die of exposure, to protect local food producers, blanket sellers, and tent sellers.

We can put a man on the moon. We can split the atom. We can genetically clone ourselves. Yet we cannot stop our fellow human beings from freezing to death, from starving ass they sit in the rain.

And the charities – of course they were straight on the bandwagon. Send cash, not food, not blankets, not old tends. Send us cash (because we have executive salaries to pay for….)

Sometimes I am glad I am a polar bear and not a human. I would be too ashamed.
doesnt disease, due to bad things getting in the water from decomposing bodies also have a huge factor? I believe the news reporters where on about this for quite sometime after the Xmas Tsunami.
