Indonesians saved from prostitution
MALAYSIA: Malaysian authorities rescued 10 Indonesian women who
were allegedly smuggled into Sabah on Kalimantan island and
forced into prostitution, AP reported.
Malaysian police and Indonesian immigration officials raided a
hotel in Keningau town and freed the women Wednesday after three
other Indonesian women who escaped from the hotel alerted them.
Four Malaysian men were arrested and could face charges of
running a prostitution ring.
Police were not immediately available for comment.
All 13 Indonesian women, age 17 to 24, were returned to
Indonesia Friday, said Makdun Tahir, an Indonesian immigration
official in Sabah.
Women, children and babies trafficking are rampant in the
region. But few of the perpetrators were sent to jail over the
offenses. --AP
