Indonesians Face Scam Attempts Once a Week, Total Losses Reach Rp 9.1 Trillion
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia is currently facing a highly alarming surge in digital fraud cases.
The Director General of the Directorate General of Digital Ecosystem, Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, emphasised the urgency of industry collaboration in addressing the cybersecurity crisis.
Edwin stated that 65% of Indonesians are exposed to scam attempts at least once every week.
“This scale of threat demands an integrated and collaborative approach, synergising robust policies, active roles from institutions, and the implementation of capable technology. Effective digital defence can only be achieved through cooperation across the entire ecosystem, including the vital role of digital identity security providers like VIDA,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday (13/5/2026).
The scale of this threat is reflected in the intensity of incoming reports, with an average of 1,000 public complaints received every day.
In response to the escalation of this security crisis, VIDA, an Indonesian digital identity and fraud prevention company, has introduced ID FraudShield.
This is a layered defence innovation developed specifically to identify and counter AI-based identity fraud threats in real-time.
“We want to emphasise that digital security must evolve. We can no longer rely solely on checking the individual, but must also examine the device and network simultaneously,” he said.
He added that ID FraudShield provides full visibility to detect risks that were previously undetectable by standard systems.
ID FraudShield offers protection against facial manipulations such as deepfakes, spoofing attempts, and the use of video recordings (screen replay).
ID FraudShield also identifies the use of emulators, illegally modified devices (rooted/jailbroken), and the presence of cloning applications.
This innovation is also capable of detecting anomalies in connections, such as the use of VPNs and proxies, and countering location manipulations through GPS spoofing techniques.
Niki explained that this innovation is positioned as a solution for the financial ecosystem, including banking, multifinance, digital lending services, insurance, and payment platforms, to mitigate increasingly complex fraud risks.
“ID FraudShield enables institutions to strengthen threat detection without sacrificing user experience or compliance with applicable regulatory standards,” she concluded.
