Indonesian workers heading to Malaysia
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Despite the Malaysian government's recent decision to repatriate Indonesian workers, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) would continue supplying labor to Malaysia.
Mataram manpower and transmigration office labor placement chief Purnomo Raharjo said job seekers who already had their own passports and working visas were preparing to depart and would do so after gaining guarantees from their employers in Malaysia.
Two labor supply companies, PT Jasatama Widya Perkasa and PT Cerya Jaya Utama, sent a total of 218 workers to Malaysia last Tuesday while Cerya Jasa Utama would send 182 others in the near future, Purnomo said.
Last month, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Muhammad said the number of Indonesian workers in the country would be slashed.
His comments followed a violent riot by a number of Indonesian workers at a textile plant in Negri Sembilan early last month.
