Indonesian worker killed in clash
MALAYSIA: An 18-year-old Indonesian died after being stabbed with broken bottles during a clash between rival gangs of migrant workers at a factory in Malaysia, a newspaper reported.
Sunday's clash was the third since last Thursday between groups of Indonesians at an industrial estate near Miri, in the Borneo state of Sarawak, The Star newspaper reported on Monday.
The gangs involved in the fighting at the timber industry estate are believed to be from different Indonesian provinces, and have set upon each other several times with bottles and other makeshift weapons, the paper said, citing unnamed police sources.
Malaysia, one of Southeast Asia's wealthiest countries, is a magnet for migrant workers from neighboring nations, especially Indonesia, and relies heavily on them for menial tasks in construction and other labor-intensive industries. -- AP
