Indonesian women's pairs eye doubles tennis title
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian pairing of Irawati Moerid Iskandar and Wukirasih Sawondari will face off against compatriots Dea Sumantri and Mudarwati in the finals of the US$10,000 Indonesia Women's Circuit 3 at the Danamon tennis complex in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
Fourth seeded Iskandar and Wukirasih did not break a sweat in defeating Liza Andriyani of Indonesia and her Australian partner Nathalie Ko 6-0, 6-2 in their semifinal match on Saturday.
The surprising duo of Dea and Mudarwati, who made it into the tournament on a wild card, outclassed third seeded Satomi Kinjo of Japan and Nina Jancekovic of Slovenia 6-1, 6-0.
In singles action, Benjamas Sangaram of Thailand beat seventh seeded Rushmi Chakravarthi of India 7-5, 6-2. She will now face Satomi Kinjo of Japan. Fourth seeded Kinjo had to work hard to upset second seeded Jayaramsai Jayalakshmy of India 6-3, 5-7, 6- 4.
In the US$15,000 Indonesia Men's Futures F6, Thailand's Danai Udomchoke upset second seeded Jan Hermansson of Sweden 6-2, 6-2 to clinch a spot in Sunday's final.
Udomchoke will square off against third seeded Hideki Kaneko of Japan, who outclassed top seeded compatriot Satoshi Iwabuchi 6-4, 6-3.
In the doubles, the top seeded partnership of Thomas Shimada of Japan and Myles Wakefield of South Africa captured the title with a 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 victory over second seeded Ashley Fisher of Australia and Minh Le of the United States. (ivy)
