An Indonesian woman residing in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan, has been fatally stabbed. A man, also an Indonesian citizen, has been arrested by the Hokkaido Police regarding his alleged involvement in the deadly stabbing.

Local police, as reported by The Japan News and The Asahi Shimbun on Saturday (6/6/2026), are investigating the stabbing incident that occurred on Thursday (4/6) night as a murder case. The incident began when Hokkaido emergency services received a report from a pedestrian regarding “a man carrying a kitchen knife” on a pavement in the Chitose area at approximately 21:10 local time on Thursday night.

Upon arrival at the scene, personnel from the Chitose and Hokkaido Police discovered a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds, including to her abdomen. The woman was rushed to a local hospital but was subsequently pronounced dead.

Local police identified the deceased as a 21-year-old Indonesian national named Sri Rahayu. She was known to reside in the Fuji 3-chome district of Chitose, though her occupation remains unknown.

At the scene, police officers immediately apprehended a male suspect. According to the Chitose Police, the arrested suspect is a 27-year-old Indonesian national named Mahmudi Agung Laksana Aji, who stated he works as a part-time employee and resides in Chiba Prefecture. The suspect has reportedly confessed to the murder, telling investigators, “I stabbed her with the intent to kill.”

Police reports indicate that the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim several times in the abdomen with a knife.
