Indonesian woman jailed in KL

MALAYSIA: A court sentenced an Indonesian woman to 15 months'
imprisonment on Monday for abandoning her newborn son in a drain,
the national news agency Bernama reported.

Fitriyanti Mawardi, a 21-year-old production operator, pleaded
guilty to abandoning the infant in front of her home in a Kuala
Lumpur suburb Aug. 12. The crying boy was found by a neighbor and
rescued.

Magistrate Norhayati Mat ordered Fitriyanti's sentence to be
calculated from the date of her arrest last August. She faced a
maximum penalty of seven years in jail and a fine. --AP
