An Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) member serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has died following an attack in Lebanon. Corporal Rico Pramudia (31) had been receiving treatment after sustaining severe injuries from the attack at the end of last month.

“UNIFIL regrets the passing of Corporal Rico Pramudia today, who was severely injured due to a projectile explosion at the base where he was stationed in Adchit Al Qusayr on the night of 29 March,” stated UNIFIL on its X account @UNIFIL_ on Friday (24/4/2026).

UNIFIL reported that Corporal Rico passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Beirut due to the injuries he sustained. UNIFIL extended condolences to Rico’s family and Indonesia.

“UNIFIL extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Corporal Pramudia, as well as to the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Government and people of the Republic of Indonesia for this tragic and irreplaceable loss,” it said.

UNIFIL demanded that all parties uphold their obligations under international law and ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property at all times. It emphasised that attacks on UN peacekeeping forces constitute war crimes.

“Intentional attacks on peacekeepers are a grave violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and may be categorised as war crimes,” it stressed.

For context, the attack on the UNIFIL headquarters near Adchit Al Qusayr in southern Lebanon occurred on Sunday (29/3). The attack also injured three others, one of whom was in critical condition.

According to information from the TNI Information Centre, the incident affected TNI soldiers attached to C Company UNP 7-1 Task Force Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL. In the incident, Corporal Farizal Rhomadhon was declared deceased.

Meanwhile, the three injured soldiers were Corporal Rico Pramudia, who sustained severe injuries, and Corporals Bayu Prakoso and Arif Kurniawan, who sustained minor injuries.

In the response, the two soldiers with minor injuries received treatment at UNIFIL Level I Hospital. Meanwhile, the soldier with severe injuries was evacuated by helicopter to St. George Hospital in Beirut for further medical treatment. The deceased soldier is currently laid to rest at the East Sector Headquarters (HQ) and is undergoing administrative processes for repatriation to Indonesia, with assistance from the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut.
