Indonesian team to mark Lee, Cheung in Asian Cup

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian soccer team will pay particular attention to Hong Kong defender Lee Kim-wo in their Group 7 match in the Asian Cup prequalifying round at Senayan stadium here on Sunday.

Indonesian coach Nandar Iskandar said during a media conference on Friday that Lee was the key to Hong Kong's attack.

"Lee fed the ball in almost all the goals his team scored against Cambodia," he said. Hong Kong defeated Cambodia 4-1 in their meeting in October.

Nandar also said he would order his players to keep a watch on Hong Kong's strikers, including Cheung Sai-ho.

"Cheung is apparently the team's backbone. He is young and skillful," he said.

Indonesia and Hong Kong tied 1-1 in their first meeting at Hong Kong's Mongkok Stadium. Indonesia defeated Cambodia 5-1 at Olympiade Stadium in Phnom Penh, and the two teams will meet again on Nov. 21 at Senayan Stadium.

Indonesia currently is tied with Hong Kong atop Group 7 with four points. Indonesia, however, has the edge over Hong Kong in total goals scored.

While Indonesia is in a good position to make it into the finals of the Cup, Nandar said his team should maintain its fighting spirit.

"We just passed the half-way point. I warned my players not to be too optimistic about our chances," he said.

He said he had not yet decided on his starting lineup for Sunday's match.

"I hope the players can focus on the match because Hong Kong also has the chance to qualify for the Asian Cup," he said.

The Cup final will be played in Lebanon next year.

TVRI will broadcast Sunday's match live at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are priced between Rp 5,000 and Rp 30,000. The Soccer Association of Indonesia is making available only 70,000 tickets for the game for security reasons. The stadium can accommodate up to 100,000 spectators.

Jakarta Police will deploy 1,000 security officers to safeguard the event.

The head of the organizing committee, Ismet D. Tahir, expressed hope soccer fans would control themselves and avoid the violence which too often marred games.

"The game will be supervised by commissioners from the Asian Football Confederation. Should a fight take place, Indonesia will be sanctioned," he said.(ivy)
