Singapore (ANTARA) - Indonesian Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, has affirmed the government’s full commitment to supporting local digital talent as Indonesian youths record impressive achievements on the global technology stage.

In the AI Ready ASEAN Youth Challenge 2026, held in Singapore on Tuesday (19 May), innovative work by students from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) won through an AI-based disaster management application named Noah AI.

The app, created by Mohammad Ari Alexander Aziz, Jason Edward Salim, and Tiffany Viriya Chu, is designed to predict and verify flood events and automatically issue warnings. The success of this innovation is tangible proof of Indonesia’s young generation’s ability to deliver concrete solutions to social challenges.

The ITB team’s achievement marks the culmination of a dominance by Indonesia’s young talent in this competition. Of the 600 works submitted, 300 came from Indonesia. This underscores the high interest and mastery of AI technology among Indonesia’s youth.

Seeing this enormous potential, the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) moved swiftly to prepare a number of strategic programmes. These steps aim to accelerate the birth of sustainable AI-based innovations in the country.

Several collaboration programmes currently in operation across various cities include: a digital scholarship programme to enhance digital expertise and produce top talent, as well as Garuda Spark Innovation Hub as a space for gathering and discussion to nurture innovations through new startups in the digital sector.

Komdigi’s minister emphasised that the key to sustaining these achievements lies in integrating local talent into the global ecosystem. The ministry is fully committed to bridging young innovators with the world’s tech giants.

“The essence is an innovation hub that unites these talents. If we do not integrate these talents with the world’s major technology producers, it will be rather difficult to meet them. They must enter a larger ecosystem,” Meutya said.

Through strong synergy between globally accomplished young Indonesians and the facilitation support from the Ministry of Communications and Digital, Indonesia is now on the right track to becoming a leading player in the AI innovation landscape on the global stage.
