More than 100 Indonesian talents are working in the fields of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in Silicon Valley, United States. Some are employed at global tech companies such as Nvidia, AMD, Apple, and Perplexity, while others are establishing their own startups.
Their expertise and experience represent a significant potential to support technology development in Indonesia. To foster collaboration, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in San Francisco hosted the IndoBay Builders Gathering at the Indonesian House in San Francisco, USA, on Sunday (25/10/2026).
A press release from the Consulate General of Indonesia in San Francisco stated that the event brought together startup founders, engineers, and Indonesian technology professionals working for global companies or developing their own ventures.
Participants hold educational backgrounds ranging from bachelor’s to doctoral degrees from various prestigious universities around the world. Their expertise spans a wide array of fields, including AI, semiconductors, digital technology, biotechnology, energy, and critical minerals.
The Indonesian Consul General in San Francisco, Yohpy Ichsan Wardana, stated that Indonesian professionals working in the global technology hub can contribute to the advancement of national technology and innovation. This contribution does not necessarily require returning to Indonesia; it can also involve sharing knowledge, expanding networks, and developing businesses and technologies that benefit the domestic industry.
Yohpy continued, stating that the contributions of professionals and talent in Indonesia’s high-tech sector in Silicon Valley are crucial for the advancement of the nation’s future development. Their involvement is expected to enhance productivity and competitiveness within Indonesia’s industries.
One participant, Mochamad Asri, a lead chip architect at Nvidia, highlighted the importance of bringing together Indonesian talent from various disciplines in Silicon Valley. Such a forum can expand knowledge exchange, foster collaboration, and bring together ideas from diverse fields to support the development of Indonesia’s AI ecosystem.
Asri cited the AI Reading Club as an example, a forum that brings together Indonesian professionals working as engineers at various Silicon Valley companies. The forum serves as a platform for them to exchange knowledge and ideas.
At the IndoBay Builders Gathering, several collaboration opportunities were explored. One of the key initiatives discussed was knowledge exchange between AI practitioners from Indonesia in Silicon Valley and the local AI community. The meeting also created avenues for startup founders to connect with investors and business partners through the venture capital network in Indonesia.
In addition, the Consulate General of Indonesia in San Francisco is exploring partnerships with several technology incubators and accelerators in the Bay Area. This network is expected to broaden access for Indonesian innovators to business mentoring, investment opportunities, and the chance to expand their ventures in the global market.
Efforts to connect technology talent with Indonesia are also targeting students. The Consulate General plans to hold inspiration classes and mentorship programs involving startup founders and technology professionals for Indonesian students in the Bay Area.
Through this initiative, students are expected to gain insight into the world of entrepreneurship while also preparing themselves for the job market. This program could be expanded online to reach students across Indonesia.
The potential for collaboration is also evident in the contributions of Indonesian talent, who not only work for global technology companies but also establish their own ventures in Silicon Valley. Among the startups they have founded are Boon AI, Lyrid, Rimba AI, Baniql, and Sansuro Bio.
Through IndoBay Builders, the Consulate General of Indonesia in San Francisco aims to maintain the engagement of Indonesian innovators in Silicon Valley by fostering an informal and open network that evolves according to the interests and needs of its members. This initiative is expected to strengthen the national technology ecosystem and enhance Indonesia’s role in the global AI landscape.
