Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Students at Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) have handed over a collective donation from pupils intended for victims of natural disasters in Sumatra. The donation, raised by the school’s OSIS/Student Council (MPK), was delivered through the humanitarian partner Dompet Dhuafa. Deputy Head of School for Student Affairs at SIKL, Isa Suhada, told ANTARA in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday that this fundraising activity is part of character education within the school environment. “We want to train the students’ sense of care and empathy. It is important for them to realise that every difficulty faced by our fellow countrymen in the homeland is our collective responsibility to help,” she said. Isa hopes the donation will benefit the people of Sumatra affected by the disaster. That concrete action, she said, proves that care knows no national boundaries, and the spirit of gotong royong remains the primary identity of Indonesian students wherever they are. The donation was collected from all SIKL students from kindergarten, primary, secondary, to high school levels, along with teachers and staff, totalling Rp6.7 million. The donation was handed over to a Dompet Dhuafa outlet at one of the shopping centres in South Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3). The handover was represented by two female student representatives from OSIS/MPK SIKL, Sarah Hanifa Falisha and Almira Hanifa Faiha. Sarah and Almira said they were happy and grateful to represent their school in channelling the donation. According to Sarah and Almira, the support and spirit from SIKL students from kindergarten to high school levels show how strong the sense of brotherhood is as children of the nation.
