Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chinese Embassy in Jakarta considers Indonesian students in China to play an important role as ambassadors who encourage the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially education.

“They not only seek knowledge and develop themselves in China, but also act as successors to the friendship between the two countries, and become ambassadors in promoting closer cooperation between China and Indonesia,” said Chen Wu, Education Attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, at the opening of the China Higher Education Exhibition 2026 in Jakarta on Sunday.

Chen said the strategic partnership between Indonesia and China is growing and continues to produce significant positive outcomes. According to his records, there are currently more than 15,000 Indonesian students pursuing studies at various educational institutions in China.

While in China, Indonesian students not only gain knowledge at their chosen campuses but also experience Chinese culture, which enhances their global perspective.

“The younger generation is the future of the nation and the hope for friendship between China and Indonesia from generation to generation,” said Chen Wu.

In addition to inviting Indonesian students to continue their education in China, Chen also encouraged strengthening collaboration between Indonesian educational institutions and universities in China.

According to him, such inter-institutional cooperation will further boost the spirit of the younger generation as a driving force for cultural and educational exchange, and can produce innovation and new achievements through collaboration between scholars of both countries.

Earlier in January, the Deputy Chief of the Indonesian Representative Office in Beijing, Parulian Silalahi, assessed that Indonesian students in China are a diaspora that can become subjects of development and assets for national resilience.

“The number of Indonesian students in China has now reached 20,000, similar to the number before the pandemic, and the trend is indeed increasing,” said Parulian.
