Indonesian Student Reports Explosions During Israel-US Attack on Iran
Network signals experienced disruptions on the mobile device of Agiel Laksamana Putra after Israel and the United States attacked several regions in Iran on the morning of Saturday, 28 February 2026. The Indonesian citizen is currently pursuing postgraduate studies at Ahlul Bayt International University in Iran.
“The network has started to become unstable,” said Agiel when contacted on Saturday, 28 February 2026.
When Israel launched its air strike against several Iranian regions, Agiel was in central Tehran. The President of the Indonesian Student Association in Iran for 2025-2026 stated that he heard explosion sounds from a distance following the Israeli attack.
“I heard some booms earlier, but it seems Iran’s air defence system managed to contain them,” said Agiel.
He reported seeing no damaged buildings as a result of the attack. He then returned to his dormitory located in the capital city area.
Agiel stated that he received instructions from the Indonesian Embassy in Iran to remain in the safest location. “The instruction was to avoid crowds and keep reporting developments from our respective locations,” he said.
Shortly after Israel launched its air strike on Iran, according to his observations, the situation in the Tehran region appeared safe and gradually returned to calm. According to him, there were no signs of a follow-up attack.
He noted that people were still visible outside homes or in open areas following the attack. “People were going about their normal activities, with no signs of panic,” Agiel recounted from his observations.
It was previously reported that several explosions were heard in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on the morning of Saturday, 28 February 2026, following an attack launched by Israel. A United States official stated to Al Jazeera that the attack on Iran was carried out as a joint military operation between the United States and Israel.
Explosions were also heard in Qatar, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, and Manama, Bahrain, which hosts a United States military base, on Saturday, 28 February 2026. This occurred after missiles were launched from Iran towards Israel following an Israeli and US attack, according to officials as reported by Anadolu and Al Jazeera.
Following the attack, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates closed their airspace. Bahrain confirmed that the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet became a target of missile attacks.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defence stated that an Iranian missile was intercepted by the Patriot air defence system. Meanwhile, Iraq, which borders Iran, also closed its airspace to avoid friendly fire incidents. Sirens were heard in Jordan to alert citizens to emergency status.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Jakarta, in a statement sent to media on Saturday, 28 February 2026, declared that the joint attack by the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel on civilian locations and vital infrastructure in Tehran and several other cities constituted a violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
This attack, according to the Embassy, also violated Article 2, paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter and represented a clear act of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Responding to such aggression is a legitimate and lawful right of the Islamic Republic of Iran under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will exercise this right fully in order to protect territorial integrity and national sovereignty by providing a strong and decisive response to aggression by the Zionist regime of Israel and the United States,” the Iranian Embassy stated.
As a founding member of the United Nations, whose primary objective is to prevent aggression, breaches of peace, and threats to peace, the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasised the responsibility of the UN Security Council to immediately take action in addressing violations of international peace and security resulting from the blatant aggression of the Zionist regime against Iran.
The Islamic Republic of Iran urged the Chair and members of the Security Council to take immediate steps on this matter.
