Indonesian Soldier in Tangerang Killed in Mob Attack by Nine Assailants
An Indonesian Army soldier, Prada Arif Budiman Sampurna, was found dead on Jalan Raya Permata Hijau Golf, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang Regency, after being attacked by a mob of nine people. The assault occurred on Sunday, 19 July 2026, at approximately 5.45 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. The victim was beaten and stabbed ten times, resulting in his death. Police have arrested four suspects, though the motive behind the killing remains unclear.
Prada Arif was a member of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih who was on assignment assisting the Jakarta Representative Office of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih. When the victim was discovered by a witness, his military identification card was found, prompting the witness to report the incident to the local Babinsa and Bhabinkamtibmas officers. A joint team from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), including Korem 052/Wijayakrama, Deninteldam Jaya, Denpom Tangerang, and the South Tangerang Police, moved swiftly to pursue the perpetrators and investigate the case by gathering witnesses and evidence related to the mob attack.
Police have arrested four suspects in the murder of Prada Arif Budiman Sampurna, each playing a different role. The suspects are identified by their initials: BR (36) and MKN (27), who chased the victim; RRG (22), who struck the victim and chased him on a motorcycle; and H (21), who chased, struck, and stabbed the victim with a knife. The first three suspects were apprehended by the joint team, while H surrendered to the Sub-directorate of Violent Crimes at Polda Metro Jaya and was subsequently handed over to the South Tangerang Police. Authorities stated that the perpetrators and the victim did not know each other. Police have seized several items of clothing worn by the suspects during the fatal attack.
Police are still investigating the motive for the murder of Prada Arif Budiman. Initial suspicions suggest the mob attack was triggered by a dispute. The Head of Information for Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih, Colonel Inf Tri Purwanto, stated that the incident is believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding at a food establishment, which led to the mob attack and stabbing by a group of civilians against Prada Arif. The case is currently under investigation by the South Tangerang Police, with 17 witnesses having been examined. Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih suspects nine individuals were involved in the attack on Prada Arif, while eight other witnesses have been released due to a lack of involvement.
The TNI has pledged to closely monitor the legal process and urged the public and the deceased’s colleagues to remain calm and allow law enforcement officers to handle the matter fully. Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih extended its condolences to the family of the late Prada Arif and guaranteed that the legal proceedings would be conducted transparently. The command also expressed gratitude for the support and assistance from Kodam Jaya and Polda Metro Jaya, particularly Korem 052/Wijayakrama, Deninteldam Jaya, Denpom Tangerang, and the South Tangerang Police, for their swift action in uncovering the case.
