Indonesian shot dead in KL
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): A 23-year-old Indonesian man detained last
month on suspicion of committing a series of rapes was shot dead
by police when he attempted to escape yesterday, police said.
The escape attempt came as he was leading a police party to a
hill where he was suspected of having dumped a victim after
raping and killing her, Selangor state Criminal Investigation
chief Johar Che Din said.
The suspect, Deliusman Arus, was arrested on May 9 and was
being investigated for one murder, eight rapes and six attempted
rapes in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas.
Johar said in yesterday's incident in Kajang, 40 kilometers
(24 miles) south of the capital, the Indonesian man pushed one of
the policemen escorting him into a ravine, hit another officer
and tried to take his gun. He was then shot twice by a third
detective.
