Indonesian Ship Detained in Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Minister Sugiono: Increasingly Complex Due to Iran's Internal Situation
Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that negotiations for the passage of two Pertamina ships detained in the Strait of Hormuz are still ongoing. The situation is becoming increasingly complex due to the internal situation in Iran. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to hold discussions to release the two Pertamina ships carrying two million barrels of crude oil. “The problem is becoming increasingly complex with the internal situation occurring in Iran itself. Because sometimes what becomes policy from above is not immediately implemented in the field. That is what is being sought for a solution,” said the Foreign Minister. Not only that, there are also developments related to the requirements for crossing the Strait of Hormuz that are still being negotiated. A meeting initiated by the UK and France with more than 20 countries this week to develop a coordinated strategy to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz for shipping. “So, I represented the President by attending that meeting virtually. The main point is, first, that the countries participating in the conference reject all kinds of fee or toll collections for ships passing through Hormuz. Because that contradicts what is known as freedom of navigation,” he said.
