Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Prays for Palestinian Independence
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar prayed for the independence of the Palestinian people during a joint iftar event with the Saudi Arabian Embassy at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta.
"During this fasting month, our prayers are answered by Allah SWT. I therefore ask all of us to pray for all our brothers and sisters in Palestine who need help, especially from Allah SWT," the minister said in his remarks at the event on Thursday.
"May they achieve independence swiftly and find a permanent solution," the minister added.
Nasaruddin also offered prayers for communities in Sumatra, West Java, and Central Java affected by floods and landslides.
"Let us pray for all our brothers and sisters in Sumatra — in Aceh, Central Sumatra, and West Sumatra — as well as in West Java and Central Java who have been affected by floods and landslides. May they be granted fortitude in facing this trial from Allah SWT," he said.
The minister expressed hope that those affected by the disasters would be granted resilience in facing their trials during Ramadan.
"Let us pray that they accept this as a test. Where there is a test, there is a promise of advancement. So do not fear facing trials, for behind every trial lies the promise of progress," he said.
He also extended congratulations to all worshippers at Istiqlal Mosque for observing the Ramadan fast, and expressed hope that Indonesians would not only fast but also perform other recommended acts of worship throughout the holy month.
"Demonstrate our gratitude to Allah through obligatory prayers, tarawih prayers, and other Ramadan devotions. We should not merely break our fast, but also perform tarawih prayers at Istiqlal," he said.
The iftar event and date distribution at Istiqlal Mosque formed part of the Iftar and Date Gift programme from Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saudi, organised by the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Jakarta in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs.
At the event, the Saudi Embassy distributed 2,000 iftar packages, along with dates that had previously been channelled through the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
