Indonesian Red Cross Educates Public on Importance of Blood Donation

The Akademi Bakti Kemanusiaan Palang Merah Indonesia (ABK PMI), together with the PMI DKI Jakarta Blood Donor Unit (UDD), organised a humanitarian event to commemorate World Blood Donor Day. The programme included a fun walk and free health services for the public. The fun walk, which was attended by representatives of UDD PMI from across Greater Jakarta and the general public, was officially launched by PMI Chairman Jusuf Kalla. The event was also attended by governors and ministers who provided moral support for the voluntary blood donation movement. In addition to promoting healthy living through a leisurely walk, ABK PMI deployed a team to carry out community service activities. During the event, residents at the location were able to access free health services, including blood type and blood pressure checks. Director of the PMI Akademi Bakti Kemanusiaan, Tetra Anestasia Putri, stated that her institution’s active involvement in this global momentum is a tangible manifestation of an educational commitment based on a humanitarian mission. Besides helping to maintain the availability of safe blood bags, this activity also aims to improve public health literacy. ‘Through this activity, we want to foster a spirit of social concern, improve public health literacy, and encourage more people to become regular voluntary blood donors,’ Tetra said in a written statement on Monday. The commemoration of World Blood Donor Day, which falls on 14 June each year, is an important annual moment to give the highest appreciation to voluntary blood donors throughout Indonesia. Their presence is considered a main pillar in saving millions of lives requiring emergency blood transfusions. Through this synergy, the PMI Akademi Bakti Kemanusiaan hopes that the values of solidarity, service, and humanity will continue to take root, both in the academic environment and in community life.
