The Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) can be used for transactions in South Korea starting April 1, 2026.
The collaboration between Bank Indonesia and the Bank of Korea is expected to boost tourism, trade, e-commerce, and MSMEs by making payments easier and safer.
RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian citizens can now use the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) for transactions in South Korea, following the launch of cross-border QRIS connectivity between the two countries.
The initiative is the result of cooperation between Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Bank of Korea. “The process was among the fastest, taking less than a year,” said BI Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
She explained that the implementation of cross-border QRIS will make payment transactions easier for people in both countries. “This can also open up broader business opportunities in tourism, trade, and for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” Filianingsih said.
She added that QRIS serves as a bridge to wider markets at both regional and global levels. “Indonesia will continue to strengthen its role in building efficient, inclusive, and nationally oriented cross-border payment connectivity,” she said.
Park Soo-deok, a representative of the South Korean Embassy in Jakarta, welcomed the collaboration. He emphasized that the achievement is not only technological but also reflects closer financial cooperation between the two nations. “People in both countries can now enjoy payment services that are easier, more convenient, and safer,” Park said.
He hopes that the cooperation will boost tourism, e-commerce, MSMEs, and other sectors. “South Korea will continue to support collaboration and digital financial innovation with Indonesia. This serves as a bridge for cooperation between the private sector and the government,” he added. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
