Jakarta, VIVA – The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has reaffirmed its firm commitment to purging its ranks of narcotics involvement. This time, attention has turned to enforcement action against two officials from the North Toraja District Police narcotics unit.

The Head of Polri’s Public Relations Division, Inspector General Jhonny Edison Isir, confirmed there is no room for tolerance towards any member involved in drug abuse or trafficking, even if they hold strategic positions.

“The Chief of Police, as the head of Polri, has on numerous occasions affirmed a strong commitment to law enforcement against narcotics offenders, including individuals within Polri itself,” he said on Monday, 23 February 2026.

The enforcement action against the Head of the North Toraja District Police Narcotics Investigation Unit (Kasat), Adjunct Commissioner of Police (AKP) Arifan Efendi, together with the Narcotics Investigation Sub-unit Head (Kanit) Adjunct Inspector First Class (Aiptu) Nasrul, was described as concrete proof that this commitment is not merely a slogan.

According to Jhonny, the firm stance is a direct instruction from the Chief of Police, consistently echoed on various occasions. Law enforcement, he said, must not discriminate.

“There is no tolerance and no impunity, especially for Polri personnel involved in narcotics abuse and trafficking networks,” he stated.

Furthermore, Jhonny assessed that the South Sulawesi Regional Police’s action against the two officers in North Toraja sends a strong signal that the war on drugs is also being waged within the institution itself.

“The enforcement action against the Narcotics Unit Head and Sub-unit Head of North Toraja District Police by the South Sulawesi Regional Police is concrete evidence and a tangible manifestation of the Polri leadership’s commitment and firmness being implemented across all regional units in the eradication of narcotics in Indonesia,” he said.

It was previously reported that the Head of the North Toraja District Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, AKP Arifan Efendi, together with the Narcotics Investigation Sub-unit Head Aiptu Nasrul, were detained by a special team from the South Sulawesi Regional Police on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking in their jurisdiction.

The two police officers were arrested following examination records (BAP) of a suspected drug dealer in Toraja who admitted to making weekly payments to rogue officers at the North Toraja District Police.

“The North Toraja narcotics unit head has been placed on special assignment. For the time being, two individuals are linked to this matter,” said the Head of the South Sulawesi Regional Police Professional and Security Division, Senior Commissioner Zulham Effendi, when contacted by journalists in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Sunday, 22 February 2026.
