Indonesian Police Name Sheikh Ahmad Al Misri as Suspect in Alleged Sexual Harassment Case
Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) has named television Quran memorisation judge Sheikh Ahmad Al Misri, alias SAM, as a suspect in an alleged sexual harassment case. Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, stated that the suspect designation was made after investigators conducted a case review based on a police report received at the end of 2025. “Based on the case review conducted by investigators regarding police report number: LP/B/586/XI/2025/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 28 November 2025, the investigators have named Mr SAM as a suspect,” Trunoyudo told reporters on Friday (24/4/2026). Investigators have also informed the complainant of the case developments via a Notification of Investigation Progress letter dated 22 April 2026. “To provide protection and services to the victims, investigators have carried out the investigation process through the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigations for Women and Children and the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence Unit of Bareskrim Polri,” Trunoyudo explained. The case previously attracted public attention after Sheikh Ahmad Al Misri was reported by several victims through their legal representatives. The victims’ lawyer, Benny Jehadu, stated that there are five victims in this case. “For our clients, there are five victims. The suspect is initialled SAM,” Benny said some time ago at Bareskrim Polri. The alleged incidents occurred over a considerable period, from 2017 to 2025, and took place at various locations. “Because this case, as we have clearly stated earlier, involves sexual harassment not against girls, but boys, same-sex,” Benny said.
