Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) stated that it is investigating allegations of abuse against an Indonesian citizen (WNI) by an illegal tin mining syndicate in Malaysia.

In addition, Polri stated that it is working to evacuate the WNI from Malaysia.

“The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Dittipidter) is coordinating with the International Relations Division (Divhubinter), as well as the Police Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia, for rescue and evacuation efforts,” said Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency, in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday.

Meanwhile, he explained that initially, the Polri Attaché (Atpol) at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur received a report on May 16, 2026, regarding alleged abduction and abuse of an Indonesian citizen from Prabumulih, South Sumatra, with the initials DC.

“Based on initial reports, the victim suffered a broken leg and injuries to his hands and head as a result of violence allegedly committed by the perpetrators of illegal tin smuggling,” he said.

Therefore, the Polri Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur coordinated with the Kuala Langat District Police Headquarters (IPD).

However, after a re-examination, it was found that the location of the incident was within the jurisdiction of the Sepang IPD.

Subsequently, the Sepang IPD deployed the Sungai Pelek Police Station to carry out rescue operations until finally the victim DC was rescued.

According to initial information, the victim claimed to have been forced to bring tin from Indonesia and persuaded to come to Malaysia. Upon arriving in Malaysia, the victim then experienced abuse.
