“There are 39 suspects in total. Seven from Nepal, four from Myanmar, and the rest are Indonesians,” the Director of Cyber Investigation at the Central Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Himawan Sutanto Saragih, informed on Monday.

According to him, the suspects had different roles, ranging from leaders and marketers to models to persuade victims.

Saragih explained that the fraud syndicate operated under the guise of a company called PT Digi Global Konsultan in Sukoharjo District.

The company’s office served as a recruitment center and the operational base for the organized online fraud, he continued.

Saragih said the syndicate operated by building emotional relationships through various social media platforms, dating apps, and other digital communication platforms with victims. Once victims had developed an emotional bond, they were then directed to invest through a fake, manipulated crypto trading platform.

“The victims were then instructed to invest through a fraudulent cryptocurrency trading platform manipulated to give the network control over the deposited funds,” he explained.

He revealed that 133 individuals had fallen victim to the syndicate. From July 2025 to May 2026, the syndicate was recorded to generated profits of up to Rp41.1 billion (US$2,2 million).

During the investigation, investigators also searched several boarding houses suspected as supporting facilities for the syndicate’s operations.

Earlier, police uncovered the operation following public reports of suspicious activity on social media.

Evidence seized in the crime included hundreds of cell phones, computers, and laptops.

The suspects were subsequently charged under Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions and Article 492 of the Criminal Code concerning fraud.
